Durch ein eigens von JBL entwickeltes Kompensationsverfahren lassen sich auch in leicht gefärbtem Aquarienwasser, wie z.B. bei Torffilterung und Krankheitsbehandlung, exakte und zuverlässige Ergebnisse erzielen.(Empfohlener Wert max: 0, 25 mgl NH4)Ammonium gilt als erste Abbaustufe im Stickstoffkreislauf. Es entsteht aus Eiweißen, die von heterotrophen Bakterien zu Ammonium umgesetzt werden. Zusätzlich scheiden Fische einen Prozentsatz ihres Körpergewichtes täglich direkt in Form von Ammonium in das Wasser aus. Ammonium ist ungiftig, wird jedoch mit steigendem pH-Wert zu immer höheren Prozentsätzen in giftiges Ammoniak umgewandelt. Bei Vergiftungserscheinungen im Aquarium oder Teich sollte neben Nitrit auch unbedingt der Ammoniumgehalt mit dem JBL Ammonium Test Set ermittelt werden. In der beiliegenden Tabelle kann dann der resultierende Ammoniakgehalt in Abhängigkeit vom pH-Wert abgelesen werden. Werden Ammoniakgehalte von über 0, 25 mgl ermittelt, muss als Sofortmaßnahme der pH-Wert etwas abgesenkt werden und langfristig Ammonium mit JBL AmmoEX entfernt werden, sowie der bakterielle Abbauprozess mit JBL Denitrol (Schadstoff abbauende Bakterien) aktiviert werden. Nach Reinigung von Filtern oder nach Einsatz von Heilmitteln werden durch JBL Filterstart Ammonium und Nitrit abbauende Bakterien den Filter wieder zugeführt.
